Things App Reviews

Super Slow - waste of money

Every time I go to do a weekly review, this app takes 15-30 min to synch with my iphone and ipad. The ipad and iphone synch with each other in seconds. This computer version of the app was $50 and the moble versions were 10. Buying this for my computer was a complete waste of time and money.

They are mighty proud of their product

Had I done more research I would never have purchased this product. I have 3 iPads an iPhone and a Notebook. $19 for an iPad app??? Are they serious. NINETEEN DOLLARS??? If you only need a copy on your desktop, great product. If you need copies on all of your devices, GO ELSEWHERE. The pricing is a rip off.

Polished, refined experience.

After switching to Things a couple months back I am continually impressed by how polished this app is. The syncing works beautifully (I don’t have to wonder if it actually synced that task I just created before closing my laptop). My favorite feature of the app is how Scheduled works: it’s dead simple to say, “I don’t need to see this until Thursday” and the task is immediately out of your way until then. A lot of fuss has been made over the fairly gradual pace of updates to Things. Sure, new features would be fun but when it comes down to it, Things does exactly what I need it to do, and just as importantly, it does it very, very well. Things is easily worth the purchase price for as much as I use it, same for the iOS clients.

tried others, but Things is the type of Mac experience I like!

I’ve tried other GTD style apps, but as a Mac user, Things works best for me. Specifically the tasks show up as meta searchable kind:documents which spotlight indexes…& spotlight’s search… rocks my world. Cloud sync to my iOS devices w/o fooling around with dropbox adds to the sweetness. Thanks!

Stale

I love Things, but they take way too long to push software updates. I hope the release of Swift doesn’t have them rewriting everything; otherwise it will be years before we see anothe release.

Keeps me on track

It’s so wonderfully simple to use, and flawless in execution. Once set up, Things 2 always has the answer to the question, “What should I do next?” Things 2 along with Evernote is all I’ll ever need for perfect productivity.

Great app.

Great app. Highly recommended!

Try it, you might fall in love

Like most people, Ive tried lots of task and to-do managing programs. Things offers ease of use, flexibility, and most importantly, it thinks about your tasks. The Daily Review feature, appear-X-days-before-due setting, and prominence of due tasks means that very little will slip through the cracks. Even if you have an overwhelming number of tasks, Things will remind you of everything if you put stuff in the right place. Oh, and Things Cloud is wondefully reliable and fast. Take the free trial on their website for a spin. It’ll sell itself.

Cannot add item from email.

I purchased the app because I understood that I could add items from an email. I have installed it on my iPad and iPhone and enabled the extension. I am able to add selected text from a web page but see no way to do this from an email. On the Mac, I downloaded the utility from the support page that allows the opening of a quick entry page. When I try to use it, I keep getting the item already in the inbox and do not see a way to create a new item.

Just Wrong

Price is too high for what it does. It does not use iCloud/iCloud Drive to sync, but uses its own service. No need to do this. Just use iCloud. Im back to Wunderlist. Very slow support.

Read the Cloud terms before you buy!

You are essentially paying for an app that allows them to steal your content and “create derivitive works” and share “with those they work with” but you privacy is important to them ; ) WOW! Thats why they don’t use iCloud! They want to farm our ToDos! Run away.

I’ve found it! Notification center

OK, so maybe I’m cracking a nut with a sledgehammer here, but there was a single feature I was looking for in a to-do app and could not find. That is, before Things. I have a lot of deadlines of various kinds, and also love the new notification center of the OS, but hated that the items and their deadlines in Reminder (or other apps I found) would only show up there on the date of the deadline. No. I needed something that could provide an easy access to a list of deadlines — e.g., this paper is due dec. 15, the other one on Jan. 1, etc. Things does this. You can even set *when* you want the items start showing up on your list (that is, how many days before their deadlines). Besides this, it is of course also a good general to-do app. I’m not a to-do-ist really, I can keep things in mind, *except* deadlines, and for showing them in the sidebar notification center this is great. (If you are looking for a specific feature, I would recommend getting a free trial version first from their website.)

Great App

Im a big fan of the app. I have it on my iphone, mac, and ipad. The icloud sync function is perfect. I use it for grad school, work, and helping me open my own business. The only complain i have is the price.

Could be better

I love the flexibility and the ability to organize and visualize by context. But I think it would be a lot easier if you can have project BELOW the respective area of responsibility (like Omnifocus has the Projects under Folders, Folders being the equivalent to areas of resp). Currently, projects are a list separated completely from their respective area of responsibiity. I think this could be a quick fix if the developers want to invest a bit of time to make this a truly outstanding app.

Best Mac & iOS todo app available

Works great on Mac and iOS (iPhone & iPad) with the latest operating systems. Uses iCloud to sync so nothing extra to buy. Well done and great support vs the competition.

Fantastic cross device To Do reminder program

Having made abundant use of this program on both my Mac Air and iPod touch this holiday season, I am happier than ever with its performance. This experience has convinced me to upgrade the trial version on my laptop by buying the full program. I had already been using this app on my iPod touch with great appreciation, and now enjoy the advantages of having it on my laptop, too: expanded Projects with checkboxes, having a full keyboard experience while creating and organizing my To Dos, and having my To Dos pop up when I click the Notification Center. Things has a marvelously versatile approach. We can create elaborate multi-stage projects or quick reminders. We can have due dates, or not. I love the way I can use the Share button on either device to put a website or other reminder into Things with just a few touches or clicks. This flexiible format extends into how we handle the things we put into Things. It can be a reminder to check out a webpage or a full, step by step, approach to a complicated project. I am putting all kinds of things into Things and feeling my mind relax as it no longer has to obessively go over and over the stuff I have to do. I dont have to remember! It’s all in Things! The cross-device implementation is phenomenal. No matter which application I use, the other device picks it up flawlessly and instantly. This is how I want my stuff to work. Sure, it’s pricey. But in one year, my less than five dollars a month investment in both devices will be continuing to pay off in freed-up brain power… while all my other To Do experiments have fallen by the wayside. And there has been plenty of those. I’m now in a committed relationship.

Life-changer

This app is absolutely wonderful. I love the whole philosophy behind the app - do what you can do today. I really like how the today list not only consists of what is due and/or scheduled for today, but also what you WANT to get done today. That way you can use due dates *only* when the todo actually has a due date. The Scheduled list is also very nice, which you can schedule todos to appear in the Today list and also make repeating todos. The calendar date picker is wonderful, you can set due dates in a snap. If you have complex tasks with multiple steps, you can create a project, and further sort tasks with tags (contexts, like home and work, priority like high, medium or low, by time or anything else you think of). I just really love everything about this app and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a todo/task manager. Give it a try.

The best to-do app out there

I’ve tried about a half-dozen “to do” apps, each of which that had received good reviews, but couldn’t find anything that made sense from a Getting Things Done or general productivity standpoint. This is the first app that “gets it”, and I now use it for everything. I love that there’s separate apps made especially for OSX, iPhone, and iPad, and I bought each addition to be able to handle to-dos no matter if I’m at work, out running errands, or playing games. The entire concept is well though-out— the tags, projects, and today and next day organization does everything I could ever want. For example, I created @home and @work tags for items that can only be done “at home” or work. The reoccuring reminders were great to remind me to change the filters every 3 months, as well as clean the pet’s cage regularly. The integration with the iOS to do manager is fantastic— I can use Siri to create no tasks while busy, say in the car or running, and then they just get automatically imported into Things. Basically I love using these 3 apps to keep track of what needs to be done. There’s really nothing that needs to be added or changed. Well, I might suggest adding a “tomorrow” category, but that’s it.

Still disappointing!!

I have been using Things on and off since it first came out. I love its elegant user interface and ease of use. I find it great for simple tasks and home use, but for work and managing multiple projects it fails miserably. There are no nested folders or subtasks. There is really no excuse for these glaring deficiencies which persisted over almost 4 years time; there has been no significant improvements in functionality or new features except for syncing through their server (which works well by the way). I keep trying it hoping that the developers have added the essential missing feaatures, but then I get disappointed. I used to be an OmniFocus user, then ditched it for Things because it was not updated for a long time, had boring and dated user interface, and was complicated. I just tested the newer version (2.0) and I really like it. Honetly, Things at this stage is not significantly better than the Reminders app built into OS X, which syncs flawlessly, simple to use, secure, and has a nice clean user interface (and is FREE). I have used Reminders for a while, but I need a higher level of organization (folders, subtasks, ..). Right now, my favorite and most used to do app is 2Do; it is not perfect but is the best there is. I have not deleted Things from my Mac yet, and I keep updating it hoping that one day it will improve.

Good, but needs some serious work

This app is a pretty good to do list manager. You can organize things by projects, areas, scheduled and one-timers. You can even create your own tag system. I liked that once you bought the program it was yours. What I DON’T like is that there’s almost no support for improving this app. 1) It’s inconsistent. A new To Do on the Mac has title, tags, notes, due date. One the app it’s title, notes, then tags, then due date. You seriously couldn’t even make it the same?? 2) No recurring events in a Project. This is a major oversight. But the really weird thing is I can make a recurring To Do in a project on the APP, but not the Mac program!! Inconsistent. Quite frankly, I’ve been thinking about switching to another program, Wunderlist or maybe Nozbe. CultureCode….PLEASE make this app the excellent, proffessional program it can and should be. There should be better support for having paid $50.
