Worthless app, no reminders, training videos or manuals & rude customer service

This is absolutely one of the most aweful apps it’s a compleet rip-off. Look elswhere for GTD app since “Things" is anything but. It’s nothing more than a glorified overhyped note taking app which Apple and National Velociity provide for FREE, not $70.00! As well there are secuity concerns as to their owning your data on the Things Cloud. Customer service, although prompt, is rude and said "sorry if you don’t like it wish you well” no way to get refund. Just a few of the problems: 1. Not able to set deadlines/reminders, alarms. They stated they never plan on offering this and to just use a calendar/reminder app. So using two apps, jumping into and out of two apps for the same task is how to GTD? 2. Does not offer sub categories to projects which is frustrating causing notes to be scattered that belong within the parent note. 3. They control, own and can look at your data if they so chooose. Why? They could have just as easily used iCloud for syncing with iOS. 4. There are no training videos for this product. Fot this kind of money one would think they would at the very least make is easy for you to learn how to use this backward ap since in some ways it defies common sense. The only videos avaialble are from many years ago. 5. Its never had a meaningful update of anykind. One would think they would consider and address customers comments, thoughts on the app to improve it. Don’t expect anything of the sort in the way of improvements they just want your money and you get what you get. I could go on with regard to other issues but take my word for it, its truly overpriced junk. I can’t say strongly enough look elsewhere.

I highly recommend this app

This app is getting much better. Its great because its cross platform . I like to use it between my Mac, iphone, and iPad. If there was a web version or one for Windows 7 it would be perfect I highly recommend it .. They could improve on the user interface . I would like to see some bigger fonts . Also a windows version so I can use at work ..

Clean

Its an uncomplicated program that helps to make life a little less complicated.

Simply the best!

I’ve tried all the Todo apps and I always go back to Things. It works the way I think, and search results in spot light work perfectly, unlike most other apps.

love the mobile app, this one just not working smoothly

Constantly “uploading” but not staying in sync with my iphone Things (which I love).

Great app!

I use Things for iPad, iPhone & Mac (soon the Watch) every day and absolutley love it! I rely on Things for simple daily to-do’s and tasks, keeping track of projects around the house, as well as, keeping me on task with work projects and customer follow-ups...I find this software indispensable! I haven’t found another piece of software thats so easy to use, elegant and syncs so reliably across all of my Apple products. There still are a few features I wish it had and I’m hoping they show up in the Things 3 release…can’t wait!

So disappointed

Nothing worse than spending $50 you will never get back on an overpriced app that just flat doesn’t live up to expectations, so very disappointed. Corporate / Enterprise users, don’t waste your time.

Dissapointing and Barebones for the Price

This is an app that really should cost about $10 or $15 considering how limited the app is. All it really has going for it is a nice UI but that hardly justifies the price tag. You’re much better off with OmniFocus or 2Do. - No Subtasks/Subfolders - No Option to Expand Notes In-Line - No Location Based Reminders (In the Stock Reminders App and OmniFocus) - No Recursion in Projects - No Option to Display “No Due Date” in the Review Pane Not only does it lack these features, there isn’t a single additional feature this app has over another and there isn’t anything it does that sets it apart.

Long wait for version 3, but the app is still amazing.

I understand the frustration around waiting for the next version (It’s been a while…), but this app is still fantastic. It’s stable, has amazing syncing capabilities, and helps me stay organized (which is the point). This company has fantastic customer support and they obviously put a great deal of care into their apps.

Excellent Task Manager that is Simple to Use

I have been using Things for several years now and I love this simple, beautifully designed app that focuses on doing one thing and doing it really well. There is no feature bloat here and yet that does not mean the app does not provide you with the means to organize the many things you want to remember, get done or file away for maybe/someday. It can also be helpful for managing simple projects. I use this together with the calendar app included in OS X and between the two of them I am highly organized and on top of things I want to remember to take care of each day. You may be familiar with the book, “Getting Things Done” and Things is laid out to facilitate the flow of task management that book teaches. You can add items into your inbox on the fly and deal with assigning those later to various dates you want to get them done. I usually review the inbox and other sections each day in the morning to plan not only today and make adjustments, additions or deletions as need be but also to review the week ahead, etc. Thoughout the day if some new task I need to get done comes up, I either add it directly to the day I know I want to take care of it or if I am not sure then, I just toss it in the inbox and deal with it later when I do my weekly review if not sooner. The beauty of Things for me along with its basic structure is how easy it is to manage the tasks once they are in there. It is a breeze to move things around and each night anything I didn’t get to is automatically rolled over to the following day for me. If I wind up with too much stuff going on, something changes or whatever it is a very simple affair to rearrange my tasks and priorities as i see fit. Things never gets in my way with a lot of stuff that would just be distractions. The whole point of an app that excels for task management is for the focus to be on rapidly planning what you are going to do and then getting on with the business of actually doing it. I have seen way too many of these kind of applictions going back many years that try to do so much stuff all in one app that the learning curve is ridiculous and you spend more time messing around with app and planning stuff endlessly than you do getting stuff done. You are going to be far more productive with an app like this where the focus is on your tasks, not the app you are managing them in. One of my favorite features in Things is being able to click on any task item and then drag that item over to the Scheduled focus area in the left pane of the window which then immediately pops up a nice little calendar for me to select what date I want that item to show up on. It’s just that easy to reassign something to some other day. If you are looking for something that is easy to learn and easy to use so you can actually get more done than planning to get stuff done I would highly recommend Things to you. Lastly, I will just add that I have found the app to be highly reliable and stable with zero issues in several years of use now on a daily basis. It just works. I love it when stuff just works. Things just works. Five stars.

Best todo app out there

If it just allowed me to color items on my list it would get a 5 star,

Manages To-Dos (present and future) with No Feature Bloat

This Mac and iPhone app do an excellent job managing current and future tasks. I considered Omnifocus, but I don’t need something that overlaps the functinoality of my calendar, nor do I personally need a ton of features. Omnifocus, to me, seems like Evernote but for scheduling/task managing: It’s great if you need a very powerful and extensive feature set. However, I simply want to-do items and basic projects neatly organized in a way that I can see what needs doing now and what needs doing later (with a few other spare features that work well). “Things" does this for me. I love the super fast and reliable syncing between the Cloud/iPhone/Mac. I love that Siri and Reminders are integrated into the iOS app! This cannot be overstated. I love that Scheduled items (recurring or not) show up only when I need them to and otherwise stay hidden away. I pretty much love every aspect of Things. It’s simple, has a great interface, and just works. You get what you pay for here. “Things" is well thought out and extremely powerful while staying simple and not overly bloated with unnecessary features. Also, I contacted support about a question I had and got the most kind and thorough reply. +1 for that.

Just Get It (put it on your ToDo List to do that)

I started as a evaluation and loved it, then went off and used other products because I was broke and I couldn’t afford to buy it. In Nov 2013 I came back and brought it and my life got much simpler and much more organized. Now I buy it as a gift to friends I know need help. With things I stoped droping the ball and had more followthrough on the important stuff. Then I got the iOS version for my iPhone and iPad and now for my Watch too. Whenever I need to remember to do something it gets added to Things on the device that is nearest and it all syncs together. The hot key support on my Mac is brilliant. I have a thought, I hit the hot key, write it down, hit return and forget about it until later that night when I go into organization mode. I love the simplicity. It may seem like it is too simple to achieve such a change to an organizational style, however it is the simplicity that provides the power. If I had to fight the complixity of the UI like I have with other applications I wouldn’t get much done and wouldn’t want to us it.

A To-do list is a very personal thing. Choose carefully...

So, if your’re here, and even CONSIDERING dropping $50 on a to-do list, that means you take your list (if not your acutal productivity) seriously. When you read reviews of to-do list apps, there’s very little objectivity. Most of the time, you either like it or don’t, it either makes sense to the way you work or it doesn’t, and then you justify with reasons that may or may not be real. For me, OmniFocus had things I coudn’t get over: tasks can only have one context, or tag (what?!), and you can’t drag to-do items from your inbox into your other projects…for some reason they’ve designed it so that when you’re in your inbox that’s the only thing you can see. That, along with its complexity (I expect to need an inspector for a word processor, but not a to-do list), made it less than desirable. Of course, Things has its…well…. “things” that people dislike as well. You can’t nest tasks or projects. I don’t know why. In the end, both Things and Omnifocus have free trials that you can get from their websites. Try them both and see what you like. Things is absolutely gorgeous (for some reason, Omnifocus is just not…no retina support but you don’t need a retina display to notice), it has every feature I could want (except maybe nesting, and the fact that I had to find a script to make it coordinate well with mail), but most importantly, like my favorite coffee mug, it just feels good when I use it. PS: It’s significantly cheaper than Omnifocus

File attach

I love this app! I wish I could attach files to my todos.

solid task management app for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Watch

I’m more inclined to use an app when I can take my data to all my devices. Things does a great job at this. I needed to invest some time to learn to use this tool, but that time has been paid back multiple times now that I have software to help my brain in keeping track of things and ordering them when I need to offload tasks and then when it’s time to get organized and get productive.

Its pretty good except one thing..

Thought this app would be perfect for me since its so simple and clean. it does not have an option to remind you at a certain time, you’d think for $50 this app would at least have the option for a timable reminder.. really dont understand the reason for not offering that to your users.. kind of wish I could return it now. smh

A near great app with a critical fault!

This app has ALMOST all the tools to be the ultimate app for getting organized - including easy, quick input option for todos (quick keyboard shortcut on Mac and, more critical, Siri option for the Iphone), organziation options including projects and tags, as well as drag and drop options for notes, and cloud syncing. However, it is amazing that such a potentially great app, and a pretty expensive one at that, does not support two of the most critical functions of any getting things done/reminder app worth its salt - TIME AND LOCATION REMINDERS! How they do not support this is mind blowing….Have a project going and need to meet with a colleague at 230pm…..have to use something else as things only allows you to set a date (NOT TIME) for something. Want to be reminded to check on something when you get to work….again, cant use Things as it has not location based alerts. So as much as I want to use things (especially since I have bought both Mac/and IOS versions), I have given up, and recommend you do to, until they correct this glaring omission. Maybe they have “support timed and location reminders” on there list of things to do……but havent got around to it because they “havent been able to set a time for it to get done” : ). NOTE: I have no economic or any other conflict of interest in this company or any other related or competing company. I am NOT a paid reviewer. (I recommend that all reviewers also vow that they have not conflict of interests in their reviews!)

Doesn’t Quite Cut It

Gosh, I was so excited for this app. It seems like it would have everything you need, especially for the steep price tag ($50) PLUS you have to pay an additional $10 if you want the iPhone app. But whatever, I was willing to pay for the supposed supreme service. However, after using it for a month, I am not seeing how it could be worth $50. While it is nice to have all of the task and project management, it seems to be missing the location and, specifically, TIME of task due. I also want reminders to pop up before the due time. Unfortunately a lot of what I do has a time deadline, so I end up using iCal to put in the time reminder, and Things to put in the general task/project. Also - while this is non-essential - I think the design needs a lot of help. It’s not the best design experience. Though I could easily get over that. What I’m saying is, for the price, I was really hoping to replace all my to do list formats. Instead, this is only one piece, and I could have gotten that for much cheaper. I can easily see myself fading from using it, in favor of somethig more all encompaassing. But, seeing as it’s an app, I believe (and hope!!) they make the necessary updates to allow it to qualfiy for the price bracket.

I HATE to-do lists. Things inspires me to get s#!t done

I hate making lists. I am NOT a ‘list person’. So why would I need to spend an arm and a leg for Things? read on... I used Things 10 years ago when it was free. It was one of the most productive times in my life. Then they started to charge for it. All these apps are the same right? Well I spent years trying all the free/cheaper ones. They all quickly becomed abandoned. Finally I came back crawling to Things. I demo’ed it, and I was surprised to find that nothing has really changed with the app. I love the workflow. I highly suggest the 14 day demo, and reading their ‘Getting started with Things’ guide. What seperates it from the others: Inbox: A landing spot for all of your to-do’s. From here you can move them to a project, area of responsibility, today, and other parts of the app. You can also create to-do’s anywhere in the app (example- If I’m in a project and click ‘+ New’ it’ll create a to-do in that project). Projects: Have a complex task? Create a project with multiple to-do’s within. Finish a project? check it off and it’s done. More satisfying then deleting a list. Areas of responsibility: I have areas for ‘Personal’, ‘Company A’, ‘Company B’, ‘Hobbies. If I drop a to-do or project into ‘Company A’ it’ll stay in there as a group. The bonus is itll automatically get tagged “work” and “company A” (more on this later). Today: You can schedule due dates for all your tasks but Things actually recomends not relying on due dates for good reason: When you fall behind there is nothing more daunting than opening your to-do app and getting hit with a wall of overdue tasks. Instead spend time at the start of your day picking your tasks in the… ‘Next’ section: Here you’ll find all your to-do’s. If I’m at work I’ll filter quickly by selecting the ‘work’ tag and it’ll only show all to-do’s/projects tagged ‘company A’ or ‘company B’. If I want to only see my errands I’ll select the ‘personal’ tag. This makes it very easy to narrow down and select the to-do’s that I want to complete today (by dragging them to Today). Scheduled: simple, for scheduled or scheduling to-do’s. Someday: throw projects, to-dos, or even dreams in here! It’s flexible. Not going to finish it today? Move it out of the today section. It’s a simple system that accomodates different needs and styles of workflow. It’s the only one that works for me. It has this magical touch that inspires me. I actually spend free time at home or on the weekends creating and planning “things”!
