Cannot add item from email.

I purchased the app because I understood that I could add items from an email. I have installed it on my iPad and iPhone and enabled the extension. I am able to add selected text from a web page but see no way to do this from an email. On the Mac, I downloaded the utility from the support page that allows the opening of a quick entry page. When I try to use it, I keep getting the item already in the inbox and do not see a way to create a new item.
